The Regency Eye Clinic in Brentwood, Essex, is the private practice of Mr JS Chawla, a General Ophthalmologist and a Cataract Surgeon with special interests in Refractive Surgery, Oculoplastics and Diabetic Eye Disease. Mr Chawla is an NHS Consultant Ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeon, based at Queens' Hospital, Romford, and holds private eye surgery clinics at the Regency Clinic, Brentwood, BUPA Roding Hospital, BUPA Hartswood Hospital, and the Essex Nuffield Hospital.
 
The Clinic provides private eye surgery - cataract surgery with multifocal lens implants for reduced dependence on glasses, refractive surgery for improving vision, non-laser surgery for vision correction such as phakic lens implants, refractive lens exchange, piggy back lens implants and astigmatic keratotomy.

Plastic surgery for the eyes

As an ophthalmic surgeon, Mr Chawla also undertakes cosmetic eye surgery/plastic eye surgery such as:
  • Eyelid reconstruction which may be required after removal of tumours such as Basal cell carcinoma, or following injuries or burns.
  • Blepharoplasty for baggy eyelids which aims to cosmetically improve the lid by removal of excessive skin and /or protruding fat. This eye surgery operation is usually done under local anaesthetic.
  • Radio-frequency technique for plastic surgery of eyes for faster healing and minimise scarring.
  • BOTOX® (Botulinum toxin type A) therapy which is useful for the removal of wrinkles on the face including "crows feet" around the eyes, frown lines on the forehead and bridge of the nose, wrinkles on the nose, upper lip rhytids, vermillion border, pebbly chin, nasolabial folds and scar management.

Experience and qualifications

Mr Chawla gained his Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1994. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and has been awarded a Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
 
He is on the panel of Examiners of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London.
 
Mr Chawla is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at Queen Mary, University of London, Barts and London Medical School.
 
Mr Chawla is a member of American, European, UK and Ireland Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Oxford and North of England Ophthalmological Societies.
 
Mr Chawla has authored 23 papers in leading medical journals and has co-authored another six. He is a regular presenter at national and international conferences on eye surgery.
