The Obesity service at St.Anthony's is provided by one of the most experienced multidiscipliary teams in the UK. The full range of surgical options for the treatment of obesity is offered including laparoscopic gastric banding and laparoscopic gastric bypass with the added security of full  critical care (level 3) on-site.

 

The treatment involves a 'minimal invasive' operation to treat obesity which may last as little as 45 minutes. Through several very small incisions a band, developed in Sweden, is situated around the extreme upper stomach, where it restricts food intake to small quantities, often through a natural feeling of fullness. The band can be tightened at any time after surgery, as agreed between the patient and the clinic team.

 

This variable control enables a slow but consistent weight loss, quite unlike the frustrating yo-yoing patients have experienced in the past.  Results vary, as do individuals, but it is a very effective treatment of obesity; it may be possible for up to 80% of excess weight to be lost over a 2 year period.  The St. Anthony's group believe this gives the patient a means to recover control over the effect of eating on their lives.  Surgical treatment and follow-up are integrated with post-operative counselling, behavioural and life-style support, provided in partnership with Hayes Grove Priory Hospital.

 

This multi-disciplinary dynamic treatment has already demonstrated considerable benefit in a series of patients.

Fixed price surgery is offered at the discretion of the hospital and may not be available in all cases. Where it is not possible to offer a fixed price, the hospital will generally be able to offer a package price based on the expected length of stay with additional nights charged at a fixed rate.

 

Fixed price surgery includes nursing accommodation, theatre fees, doctors' fees, drugs and dressings as well as the cost of a pre-operative and a post-operative consultation.  If your consultant thinks you need to stay in hospital a little longer than expected, then that is covered too up to a maximum period of 28 days.
