We feature a recording of a live webcast of a robotically-assisted radical prostatectomy (prostate removal) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Endoscopic surgery, a less-invasive alternative to traditional open surgery, uses small incisions, or ports, for the insertion of an optical device (endoscope) and surgical instruments. Compared to traditional open surgery for removal of the prostate, the endoscopic technique reduces blood loss and postoperative pain and allows quicker recovery from prostate surgery.
