BUPA add new feature to critical illness policies
BUPA Individual Protection has added a new feature at no cost to all new and existing individual critical illness policies, giving members access to independent expert medical advice if they are diagnosed with a serious medical condition.
The scheme, called Best Doctors®, gives policyholders 24-hour access, seven days a week, to a team of advisers who will appoint a medical case manager to assist members throughout the review of their case. This evaluation is initiated by a team of experts including doctors affiliated with Harvard Medical School .The experts source the most appropriate specialists from a peer reviewed database of over 50,000 international doctors. The result is the evaluation of diagnosis and best treatment options from some of the most experienced doctors in the world for the member’s particular medical condition.
Best Doctors® can be used by anyone who submits a claim covered on a BUPA Critical Illness cover or a BUPA Critical Illness with Life cover policy. Following each consultation, a report outlining the experts’ clinical recommendation is provided to each patient and their treating doctor.
Only five percent of doctors in any country are selected by their fellow doctors to be included in the Best Doctors® database. If members choose to be treated outside the UK, the scheme also provides a list of recommended hospitals, estimates for the cost of treatment, and coordination of medical appointments and travel.
