A new study has revealed that the majority of cosmetic surgery patients take up to six months to feel comfortable with their new appearance.
Research published by the Harley Medical Group suggests that 64 per cent of patients need this amount of time to get used to their new look, while the remainder find it hard to imagine they ever looked any different.
According to staff at the private group, before-and-after pictures can be an essential way to aid recovery after cosmetic surgery.
A 'before' picture is taken during the patient's initial interview before they undergo any cosmetic surgery, providing them with a constant reminder of how effective the surgery has been.
Spokeswoman Liz Dale commented: "It is very important for the patient to understand the full extent of what they have gone through and its life altering effects.
"With the use of before-and-after pictures we enable the patient to visualise the dramatic change they've experienced. Patients often carry the photos around with them as a constant reminder of what they've been through."
