Private medical insurance in Scotland: Scots pay less and claim less

Scots paying for private medical insurance make half as many claims on their policies as their counterparts south of the Border.

 

Health insurer, Western Provident Association (WPA), says that although the number of people buying their health insurance in Scotland has soared in the past year, there are fewer claims per head.

 

WPA suggests that in Scotland, prices are about 20% lower than in England, as Scots claim less.

 

Other insurers have seen the number of Scots taking out private health insurance soaring with growing dissatisfaction with the NHS.

 

BUPA agrees with WPA that claims per head to tend to be much lower in Scotland than in other parts of the country. This means that premiums are lower for customers in Scotland.
