Anti-aging creams 'not as good as Botox'

When it comes to improving the appearance of your skin, nothing can compare with Botox, surgeons have said.

According to Kevin Hancock, honorary secretary of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps), the majority of creams on the market are simply "expensive moisturisers".

"Nothing that you can buy in a cream in the high street is going to have the effect that Botox will," Mr Hancock said.

"Although it's not as cheap as some creams, I think Botox is an incredibly effective treatment. In terms of patients' satisfaction, I would struggle to think of somebody who hasn't been happy with their Botox treatment," the cosmetic surgery expert claimed.

Mr Hancock pointed out that women can be easily fooled into buying creams by advertisements in magazines and warned that there is "very little evidence that any of these creams are going to be significantly effective".

The expert noted that smoking and exposure to the sun are the two main causes of premature skin aging and recommended that consumers always use sun screen when going out in the sun.
