Medicash sees dental claims increase

The number of customers making dental care claims, and the amount they claim for, have both increased as the numbers of NHS dentists has fallen, says Liverpool health cash plan provider Medicash.

Figures show that the number of claims has increased by 10%, while the average value of a claim is up by 19%. This rise in dental claims coincides with the introduction of the new dental care contracts in April 2006.

Peter Lauris, sales and marketing director at Medicash, says: “There is no doubt that many people are now turning to dental health plans to guarantee themselves treatment at affordable costs. Our claims have risen during the same period as the new NHS contracts for dentists were introduced as people find it more difficult to locate an NHS dentist to treat them.”

Medicash offers plans that can give up to £240 off dental bills as well as a host of other health benefits including optical and hospital care.
