Scottish Widows checks out of Asda life cover

Asda logo
Scottish Widows and supermarket giant Asda have terminated their agreement to sell life cover products at the checkout.

A deal was signed three years ago to sell life products direct -which Asda would distribute by promoting the product through a leaflet, and Scottish Widows would administer and service through its call centre.

The two companies have now decided to end the arrangement, as the anticipated level of sales has not been reached.

This is the latest in a long line of failed attempts, by supermarkets and other retailers seeking to sell health and life insurance in store.
