A private consultant orthopaedic surgeon who is a knee specialist

 
Mr John P Browett, a fully trained consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in knee surgery, has been involved in arthroscopic knee surgery for over 25 years. 
 
He trained as a medical student at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London and qualified in 1969.  He was appointed an orthopaedic consultant surgeon in 1979 to St Bartholomew's Hospital following a recognised top orthopaedic training programme and then worked for 12 years at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club where he became increasingly exposed to knee problems and sports surgery.  When St Bartholomew's Hospital Orthopaedic Department closed in 1995 he became a full time private orthopaedic consultant based solely in Harley Street and carrying out all knee surgery at The Princess Grace Hospital which is close by. This large private hospital offers all the technical facilities, equipment and expertise necessary for modern knee surgery including a high dependency unit with resident medical staff. 
 
He is now a knee specialist, only treating knee problems.
 
Patients are seen at 101 Harley Street when adequate time is allocated for a full consultation. X-rays are taken at 101 Harley Street and following this initial consultation further investigations are instituted as necessary including MRI scan, bone scan, blood tests etc. All investigation facilities and medical expertise are easily available and nearby. Investigation reports are received rapidly. If possible conservative management is commenced but if indicated surgical treatment can be arranged quickly.

Arthroscopic knee surgery

Mr Browett carries out all types of arthroscopic surgery including meniscal suturing, meniscectomies, articular cartilage surgery and grafting techniques and soft tissue work within the knee including lateral retinacular releases.
 
All aspects of knee instability are treated with particular reference to cruciate and collateral ligament reconstructions.
 
Instability and dislocation of the patella are managed with a full range of orthopaedic procedures. If necessary osteotomies of the femur, the tibia and the tibial tuberosity are carried out.
 
Replacement surgery consists of unicompartmental replacements (medial, lateral and patello-femoral) and tricompartmental total knee replacements are carried out as necessary. Knee arthrodesis would be completed only as a salvage procedure.
 
Following surgery, patients are seen for post-operative consultations, physiotherapy and supervision until the knee has settled.
