Mr Rajan Uppal, a Plastic Surgeon accredited by the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) has extensive experience in all aspects of plastic surgery in the UK. He specialises in breast surgery, the short scar volumising facelift, liposuction and rhinoplasty.
Rajan was born in Hillingdon, Middlesex and grew up around Berkshire. He went to medical school at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London and was an active member of the rowing team and tennis club. In 1993, he qualified in Medicine and Surgery and was awarded a Prize in Pharmacology at his final examinations at the University of London.
Rajan became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998 following completion of his junior surgical training. In 1999, he was awarded an MSc for his research into wound healing at University College London. He has published his work in leading medical journals both in the UK and in the United States. He trained in cosmetic surgery at the Institute of Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery in London.
Mr Uppal has worked in some of the most prestigious teaching hospitals in London including Guys and St Thomas' Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital and St George's Hospital. He has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best surgeons in the UK and Europe. He was made a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery FRCS(Plast) as a result of his experience and work.
Mr Uppal spent three months living and working in Belgium to further specialise in his sub specialty interest of Breast Reconstruction after breast cancer. He regularly travels to meetings in France, Belgium, Italy and the US to keep up to date with the latest cosmetic and reconstructive techniques.
Mr Uppal is a regular lecturer at the Royal College of Radiologists on Sentinel node biopsy for malignant melanoma (skin cancer). He helped to develop a new technique using ultrasound measurement of node depth for patients with melanoma. He has published this technique in the European Journal of Plastic Surgery. He also lectures at the Hellenic Centre and Thames Valley University.
He is an NHS consultant at the Heatherwood and Wexham NHS Trust which has a catchment area of almost a million people around the Windsor, Ascot, Slough and Reading area. Here, he treats common skin cancers, breast conditions, birth defects, burns, road accidents and performs breast reconstruction, hand surgery and microsurgery.
